Felt Touched

It was spinning that introduced me to the delights of wool, where as a child, my grandmother taught me how to spin and use natural dyes. Although my interest in fibre arts continued, it wasn’t until 2009 that I really discovered felting. Since then my passion and fascination with felt has completely absorbed me.
I’ve enjoyed learning from several top international and New Zealand feltmakers whose knowledge and techniques continue to shape my work. It’s that pleasure which I enjoy sharing, through my work.
Felt is one of the oldest known textiles and a remarkable medium with its origins dating back to around 400BC. Using just soap, water and agitation, the wool fibres entangle to become a complete textile. Its strength and versatility mean that there are a huge number of possible forms it can take. Textural variations as well as colour combinations are endless in felt and they are a constant source of pleasure and exploration for me.
Working with natural fibres like wool, silk and fine cottons is such a pleasure, just as it is to feel them on your skin. They breathe on the body and fine merino combined with lightweight silk is so wonderfully soft on the skin and light to wear. Its luxury is a pleasure to touch.
My designs are individually handmade and unique with each item made from high quality fibres.
